No spoiler here at all. At least none that I am aware of. *lol* And yes, I know what you mean. But I never even noticed anyone referring to them as cylon instead of cylons. I was about to ask for an episode where you heard it to listen to it myself and maybe look it up in the transcripts but even a transcript is subjective. Although I'm willing to give it an ear if you want me to. *lol*
You said at least the first seven models aren't meant to be unique. Your choice of words implies that the other five are. That's spoilery in my book, though maybe we're just having a bit of a miscommunication here.
As for cylon vs. cylons. I may be hearing this wrong. Problem is, I can't give you specific episodes because to me the whole show is one continuous story. And since I usually watch a couple of episodes in one go, I don't even pay attention to the episode titles. All I seem to remember is that both times I noticed it, it was Six who said it. If she said it at all.
I just went back to a season three episode in which I thought she said it, but she didn't refer to the cylons as a race. Boomer did, though, and she said cylons. And now I'm questioning my hearing. *headdesk*
Edits: I don't know what I'm saying or how to spell, apparently. Also seem to be editing typos I thought I've already edited. This doesn't bode well for any kind of story I might write in the future. O.o.
Who cares about spelling in a lj entry? *lol* Regarding spoilers... well, all we know at this time of the series is that there are seven models and some final five. Who knows about the final five? Are they like the others, are they different? In which way might they be different? And if they are the final five, there has to be something different, hasn't there? I mean, it's everybody's guess how they relate to the other models or not. See, I didn't really mean anything. *lol* Really, the whole cylon phylosophy is giving me a headache and as much as I L.O.V.E Ronald D. Moore for BSG - and I do - I think that he didn't really think it all through when he started with the series. *lol* And again, I don't mean this as spoiler just as a feeling that followed me all the way through the series. At least, I still wait for an epiphany.
But talking about stories... gotta have to get back to my threesome. Only the gods know why I committed myself to write that. *lol* Oh, wait - wasn't the answer to everything: Because you asked for it? Or was that 42?
I think Forty-Two should be your call sign. Doesn't matter that you're not pilot. We should just start calling you Forty-Two anyway. I know I will -- if I can remember. :D
I think you're right about RDM. Also, one of my pet peeves with this is show -- and most sci-fi shows, to be honest -- is the physics. Like, what exposure to the vacuum of space does to a body. Basically, you'd explode and freeze (I'm just not sure if that would occur simultaneously or in a certain order). There's a reason for pressure suits and it's that all of us have internal pressure that is the opposite of the outside pressure (lots and lots of air above our heads). If that wasn't the case, we wouldn't be able to breathe. We'd basically implode. And let's not even get started about how sound doesn't travel in a vacuum because it has no carrier. ^^
*coughs* *steps off soap box*
I should just get back to watching the end of season three. Don't mind me. :D
I totally don't mind you and I even get you. It's a discussion Ralf and I had before. I'm not even partially as smart as you are but read a book or two about physics and space too. Honestly, such things bother me a lot. It may be small things but would be very easy to take into account. *sigh* But maybe exploding people wouldn't be the hit for a television show. *lol*
Have fun with the rest of season three! I fondly remember the times when I watched one ep after the other. *g*
Nowadays they only bother me when the episode is centered around something that is physically impossible like a certain season three episode.
I even understand why they choose to have sound in space. Just imagine big frakking special effect scenes in space, ships crashing into each other or exploding, and you hear nothing. To the normal viewer, even to the physicists among us, that would be immensely jarring. Just because we know there's no sound in space doesn't mean we'd deal well with being faced with reality on an action/sci-fi TV show.
Can't you imagine it? The viewer taking his/her remote control setting it on the highest setting, doubting his/her ears and then the next scene? *giggles*
