Author's note:	Response to ufp13's challenge to write a J/C drabble about the mess hall incident in "Learning Curve".

Chakotay was standing at attention in front of the Captain's desk, gaze fixed on a spot half an inch above Janeway's head. She was going on about his misconduct in the mess hall.

It all came down to protocol. How, as a senior officer, he should be an example to the rest of the crew. How, as a former Starfleet officer, he should know better than to solve conflicts with his fists.

He came to hate protocol that very day.

But he was willing to put up with it for her sake.

He had plans for both of them yet.
