BSG 4x17 - Someone To Watch Over Me

Yes, I'm a little late here. Still, I've got thoughts.
I was sucked right in by the Kara-centric opening. There's just nothing quite like seeing her go through routine repeatedly while hearing about their endlessly routine days. It's very poignant, very well done.
In fact I love the whole Kara-arc in this episode. And the music, which does so rock, is that a variation on All Along The Watchtower? If it is, you're probably going "D'oh!" right now, but let me tell you that I have no ear for music. I just know that I absolutely must have this version of whatever song this is (I know it... I know that I know it). Must. Have.
The piano player? I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking him Kara's father towards the end, although in retrospect that would have been too easy, too straightforward. It still leaves me wondering about Kara's lineage. I've heard speculation -- even though I tried not to -- that she's Daniel's daughter which would make her a hybrid like Hera. But even so, do hybrids resurrect? Or let's tackle the first problem, how the hell did she get to Earth -- in whatever incarnation -- in the first place?
Boomer. Maaan. I don't know what to think. I wonder if maybe, possibly, for whatever reason, she's playing all of them. I don't know in what way, or to what end, but her actions seem much too intricate for her to simply hand over Hera to Cavil. How could she have known that she wouldn't be shot on sight when she helped Ellen escape? How could she have known that Tyrol would be gullible enough? If abducting Hera and bringing her to Cavil was the plan all along, she took one hell of a gamble. Too many variables, too much that could go wrong. And without resurrection, her life was on the line. So tell me, what should I think?
Tyrol and Helo. Gullible, gullible men. Nuff said.
I've got no idea what Anders's part is to play, but it's building up to be something significant. I can only hope that if and when he comes out of his coma, it's not gonna be another info dump like the whole of No Exit.
I refuse to believe that Laura Roslin just died.

I totally think Daniel is Kara's father in some way, but I'm not entirely sure Daniel is all Cylon, or Kara is all hybrid. I think the Lords of Kobol are somehow involved. (And possibly the piano player was her dad, but in the same way that Head!Six is Caprica Six? I've started to think these Head!People might be Anders's angels...)
The music was in fact not "All Along the Watchtower," according to Bear McCreary's awesome three-part blog entry on this episode. It's a reworking of his "Final Four" theme, apparently. I don't really know the melody for AATWT, but I could tell upon listening to it that something wasn't entirely the same as the last time we heard "that song," so I was glad to have my suspicions confirmed. (Although when I heard "My dad taught me a song," I pretty much had an idea of what would be coming...) The instrumentation was similar enough to make it obvious what was happening, IMO.

I missed the album title the first time around, or rather, I missed its significance. Live at the Helice Opera House? No way in hell that's incidental. Now according to Greek mythology, Helice was one of the nymphs who nurtured Zeus in his infancy and was put into the heavens as Helike (The Great Bear, Ursa Major) at some point. I'm probably reaching here, but I wonder if this a pointer? They are still searching for a home... Oh, well. Admittedly I'm clueless, but it's fun to speculate.
As for The Music, one more reason to get the season four soundtrack. ^^

Haha, yes, I noticed the fact that it was live from an opera house as well, and figured that had to be significant. Your idea about Helice is also interesting. They've gotta go somewhere...

Having used the marathon approach, it's all very fresh in my mind, but I also didn't have a lot of time to mull it over. These are but my first thoughts on and impressions of the latest episode. Reading through them again today, I don't know that all still apply. Probably don't.
I really like the idea of Anders becoming Galactica's hybrid. It gives me food for thought.

I know Bear McCreary says it's his music from Crossroads, but I would swear that the chord progression is actually the one from All Along the Watchtower (and I do know a little about these things). I always assumed that the final four theme was based on that chord progression from AATWT anyway *shrug*. I was actually expecting Kara to launch into the Cage Metamorphosis that her father played in the recording in Delphi. But I think I'm the only one still obsessed with that piece ;)
