Apparently, I'm firmly in shayenne's corner when it comes to the character of Laura Roslin. I've just started watching episode 1x09 and I just cannot believe she's actually entertaining the idea of Adama being a Cylon. Worse yet, and that it the point of this post really, her sole reason stems from a comment a Cylon made in episode 1x08 even though she knows exactly what he's doing by telling her this.

Yes, I get that the comment was meant to plant a seed of doubt, and obviously it did. Yet the thing that gets me is that Roslin knew precisely what Leobon was doing putting insidious thoughts in their heads; she basically told Starbuck so. So why, I ask you, why does she seem to take his comment at face value? She's never had reason to doubt Adama -- until after Leobon whispers four little words in her ear. *headdesk*

I'm having an insanely strong fangirl reaction here. I believe I'm not just officially in love with this show, I'm irrevocably in love with it. I mean the muse -- you know the one responsible for writing -- is actually sitting up and begging to get cracking. Not that she knows, precisely, what she wants but it involves Baltar, Head Six, and is headed right into NC-17 territory. *snorts* Like I've got time to write -- or a proper grasp on the characters, for that matter. Oh, and I need more BSG icons.

Guess that means I've got my work cut out for me, huh?

Yup, Roslin gives me the irrits. (no spoilers here) but I started to like her a *little* bit more at some point in Season 2, and then I've just thunked back into the "oh, too annoying and flip-floppy" corner.

I'm not shipping anyone yet. There's characters I ADORE, but the muse ain't talking yet.

I don't hate her. I don't even dislike her. My Roslin-o-Meter keeps going up and down, depending on the episode. Although it's entirely possible that my love for Mary McDonnell is screwing with it. So maybe I don't like her character after all? I don't know. But I'm sure I'll find out in the not too distant future.

Oh, I agree. Mary McDonnell is love. I was lucky to have seen her in person at last year's FedCon, but I've loved her as an actress ever since I saw Dances With Wolves for the first time.

The jury's still out on Laura Roslin though as far as I'm concerned. ;)

As I've just inadequately explained to both babylil and ufp13, I don't think I dislike her character. But, she keeps doing things that a) I don't agree with and b) seem to be at odds with decisions she's made before. And I just don't understand her reasons if there are such. If, at least, I could understand...

I'm not necessarily shipping anyone here, but I believe that Gaius's voice would come easily if I gave writing a go. He's intriguing, and I just adore his accent. *lol*

Maybe I convert to Roslinism while keeping my Baltar-faith. Just think about it. The multiple voices in my head could have their very own party. *eg*

I can't explain my love for Gaius. He's selfish, he's delusional (at the very least has delusions of grandeur), he's got his very own agenda (from what I can tell), and he's living one big headfuck. And yet I love him. Or maybe that's exactly why I love him. Well, that and his accent which I could listen to for hours on end.

I believe my having seen Mary McDonnell on stage at FedCon and hear her talking about a character I didn't know at that point is absolutely screwing with my views on Roslin as I watch the show.

In other words, I'm mostly confusing myself here. But, I do know one thing for sure: I don't hate the character. If I hated a character as integral to the show as this one, I wouldn't keep watching. I couldn't.

M'dear, I've been daydreaming about BSG all damn day. I'm contemplating writing (admittedly, mostly Baltar/Head Six, but there's thoughts on Roslin/Adama (or is that Adama/Roslin? *scratches head*) and Lee/Kara as well. I'm currently watching my fourth episode today and it'll be at least two more before I go to sleep. Why would I mind getting the BSG special edition only? *blinks*

Speaking of adoration, which characters do you adore and why?

Oh, where to start!!

The first character I adored (and still do) is Boomer. Fell for her in the miniseries. Gutsy and interesting. Can't say more without spoiling you, but there's so many interesting plot lines attached to her that I always give a little whoop when she gets screen time.

I disliked Starbuck at first, but now I really like her, now that she's showing weakness and isn't just a cocky frak-me pilot. I guess she's a female Tom Paris (but more in your face with it) and I've always loved Tom, sooooo... (interesting how I dislike Roslin for showing weakness, but like it in Starbuck! Oh consistent me).

Gaius is sex on legs. Sort of reminds me of a better looking Bashir from DS9. Love the hair. And there's so much that's fucked up with his personality and ego, and he's so self-centred that you have to love him for plot value. And the sex appeal.

As the series moves on, I'm really liking Bill Adama (was ambivalent about him at first). Can't say more without spoiling you. But I could possibly ship Adama/Roslin, although I'd have to like Roslin more first.

I also like Helo. And Cally. And Dualla (I think she's fascinating).

Don't like Lee Adama.

Ships? Possibly at some point Adama/Roslin. Starbuck/Baltar (clash of the egos). Starbuck/Kat (you may not know Kat yet). Helo/Boomer. Baltar/Boomer. Baltar/Lee Adama

So, apart from Baltar, whose corner are you in?

Erm, you and I, we are so very much on the same wavelength, it's downright scary.

Gaius being a better looking Bashir is exactly what I thought when I started watching. Exactly.

I love Boomer, she's been a favorite from the get-go. And I also disliked Starbuck at first, but that's in the past. She's got more of a personality than Paris did early on, though (well, that's quite easy, seeing as hardly anyone on Voyager had a personality to speak of early on, but you know what I mean, right?)

Also wasn't sure about Commander Adama at first, but he's grown on me really quickly. I could easily ship Adama/Roslin, though. It all depends on my muse's take on Roslin, I guess. I mean, my take on Janeway isn't exactly 100% consistent with canon either, so there's room for Roslin (without rewriting her whole character).

Yes to Helo, Cally, and Dualla. Billy, too.

We only differ on Lee Adama. But just as my views on Roslin are confusing due to having heard Mary McDonnell talk about her character before I watched the show, the same is true for Jamie Bamber and his character. I really do like Jamie Bamber. That makes it very difficult for me to dislike Apollo.

Ships? Well, Adama/Roslin, Lee/Kara, Starbuck/Baltar would be quite fascinating to explore, Helo/Boomer. I can see Gaeta/Baltar a lot more clearly than Baltar/Apollo. And you're right, no clue who's Kat yet.
