Chakotay surveyed the pile of debris in front of him with a depressing level of acceptance.

"Do you think they'll let us live?" Paris asked, his eyes fixed on what used to be one of Voyager's shuttles.

Chakotay gave him an incredulous look. "Oh no, there's no 'us'. There never was an 'us'. For once, it wasn't my fault and I'm not letting go of that lifeline."

"True," Tom admitted cheerfully, a huge grin splitting his face. "But with your record, who's to believe you?"

A third voice answered, "That would be my cue."

Tom deflated. "Your timing sucks, B'Elanna."
